Mudgas Analysis
Mudgas isotope logging (MIL) involves analyzing samples of gas evolved from the drilling mud as the well is being drilled. Concentrations of hydrocarbons and major fixed gases are determined during mudgas GC analysis. Components analyzed include methane, ethylene, ethane, propylene, propane, isobutane, normal butane, isopentane, normal pentane, C6+, nitrogen, oxygen+argon, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. Carbon isotopic values can be determined for methane, ethane, propane, butanes, and pentanes of samples with sufficient concentrations of these components.
The testing suites listed below are those most generally utilized for mudgas analysis, however, we can modify our analysis to provide the combination of analyses that best suits the specific needs of your project.
Isotech has also designed the IsoTube® sampling system to simplify the collection of mudgas samples. IsoTubes can easily be shipped to our lab for gas chromatography and carbon isotopic analysis.
